Shri Prasanta Mahapatra Appointed as Executive Director of SEBI
Mumbai (August 3, 2026) – The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) announced that Shri Prasanta Mahapatra has officially taken charge as its new Executive Director in Mumbai.
According to the official SEBI press release, Shri Mahapatra has been assigned critical regulatory responsibilities in his new leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
In his capacity as Executive Director, Shri Mahapatra will oversee two major divisions within the regulatory body:
- The Corporation Finance Investigation Department.
- The Recovery and Refund Department.
Extensive Career at SEBI
Before being promoted to Executive Director, Shri Mahapatra served as a Chief General Manager. A long-standing veteran of the organization, he joined SEBI in April 1999. Over his decades-long career, he has gained diverse regulatory experience across multiple departments, including:
- Market Regulation Department.
- Investigation Department.
- Enquiries and Adjudication Department.
- Market Intermediaries Regulation and Supervision Department.
- Corpor Finance Department.
- Investment Management Department.
He has also completed a tenure at the Board’s Eastern Regional Office in Kolkata.
Advisory Roles and Educational Background
Beyond his departmental work, Shri Mahapatra has actively contributed as a member of various domestic policy-making and advisory committees. These committees primarily dealt with areas of mutual interest and cooperation with international regulators.
Shri Mahapatra holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Utkal University, Odisha
